Lessons Learned - Hopefully - Carlos Martinez

Recently a future E Dorm Alum - Carlos Martinez - '92 was released from the U17 Residency Program and sent home due to displinary reasons.

See article below:

Unfortunately it apears that there has been "at least one" such incident with every class of residency participants (i.e. someone being sent home for disciplinary reasons).

One school of thought is that "teenage boys will be teenage boys" especially away from home (and Mom and Dad). The other school of thought is that "the rules are there for a reason and must be respected and followed" (regardless of how talented one may be).

No matter which school of thought one believes, let's hope that for the individuals involved, the LESSONS have been LEARNED!

What Exactly is "K Dorm"?

I've gotten numerous emails asking me "What exactly is K Dorm?"

K Dorm was the U17 MNT Residency apartments on IMG Academy's campus, where the guys lived during their time in residency.
IMG Academy converted time-share apartments (2BR/2B) into dormitory style quarters for the US Soccer U17 Residency participants. In each apartment there were usually 6 players - 4 in the master bedroom and 2 in the smaller bedroom. Each player had their own bunk bed, drawer and personal locker located in the living room area.

All of the US Soccer U17 Residency participants lived in the 2-story K building affectionately called "K Dorm" and were its sole occupants. The unit also had it's own training/equipment room (below) located on the ground floor. K Dorm is located around back near the clay tennis courts.

This year the US Soccer U17 Residency participants have moved to "E Dorm" which is closer to the cafeteria.

Now you know!
